Duane A. Dinehart, 51, Lafayette IN, died on January 12th, 2002 at the Veterans’ Administration Medical Center in Danville, Illinois after a prolonged illness.

 Duane was born on October 18th, 1950 in Fremont, Nebraska. His parents were Donald L. and Eloise E. (Wells) Dinehart. A former Alexandria resident, Duane resided in Lafayette for the past five years having moved from Arlington, Virginia. Duane graduated from Alexandria-Monroe High School, Class of 1969 and was active in numerous activities. He received a Bachelor or Arts degree with a History major from Notre Dame University in 1973. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1973 – 1977 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant. He served in the US Marine Corp Reserve and attained the rank of Captain. Duane was an entrepreneur and has been involved in many enterprises. For several years, he was a self-employed computer programmer. In his personal life, Duane enjoyed cooking and was known for his “Firehouse Chili.” He was also an old movie buff and has an extensive collection of films and videos. Country music and the game of Trivia were other pastimes that gave Duane pleasure. Whether helping a family member, a friend or his country, Duane did everything with passion and energy. While his spark has now faded…the memories will not. We are better for having known Duane Dinehart.

Survivor Duane is his daughter, Sara Dinehart – Pacific, Missouri; three brothers, Mike (Joan) Dinehart, Ten Mile, Tennessee, Rick (Cathy) Dinehart, Kendallville, Indiana and Mark (Anita) Dinehart, Alexandria, Indiana; several nieces, nephews, 4 aunts, 3 uncles and numerous cousins including a special cousin – Earl Jones of Omaha, Nebraska; Special friend and companion: Jane Ann Hilligoss Patch, Lafayette, IN; and his former wife – Lana Dinehart, Pacific, Missouri

Preceded in death by: His father on January 23rd, 1987, his mother on September 25th, 1996

Funeral services will be at 10 AM, Thursday, January 17, 2002 in the Owens Funeral Home, 412 N Harrison Street, Alexandria, Indiana. Officiating: Rev Tim Fleace, pastor, First Christian Church of Alexandria. Interment: With full military honors will follow in Park View Cemetery, Alexandria, IN

Visitation: Friends may call at the Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria from 4 – 8 PM, Wednesday, January 16th, 2002.

Memorials: Contributions may be made to the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign thru the funeral home.
